Ten Thousand Days – Tool

You are the light, the way,

that they will only read about.

Daylight dims

Leaving cold fluorescence.

Difficult to see you in this light.

Please forgive this bold suggestion.

Should you see

Your maker's face tonight,

Look him in the eye.

Look him in the eye and tell him,

I never lived a lie,

never took a life,

But surely saved one.

Hallelujah

It's time for you to bring me home.

Memory Stones are Traveling Far & Wide

Dylan's Story

Dylan was born April 4th, 1992 in Bridgeport Connecticut and is the son of Kim Foreman-Rhindress and Robert Sterling.

He spent the first 9 years of his life in Stratford, Connecticut where he went to Helen King Reynold's Pre-School and Stratford Academy Elementary school. He was the oldest brother of Justin who was born in 1994 and Eden who was born in 1997.

In 2001, he moved to The Netherlands with his family and attended The Violenschool in Hilversum, NL. Holland was a very happy time in the life of our family and we had a wonderful two years there meeting people from all over the world and traveling to many places throughout Europe such as Paris, Rome, Venice, Brugge, Northern Spain, Berlin, London, Scotland as well as many places within Holland. Even at the young age of 10 and 11, Dylan could tell us many interesting facts about the history of these places because of a book series he liked called Horrible Histories and a computer game called Age of Empires.

In 2003, the family moved to Kelowna, BC and Dylan attended Shannon Lake Elementary for grade 6. He particularly liked his teachers there, the dynamic duo Mr. Tonn and Mrs. Wipf. He went to Constable Neil Bruce Middle School for grades 7 & 8 then to the private school, Vedanta Academy for grade 9 where he learned to play guitar. He attended high school at KSS and graduated  in 2010.  It was in the last two years of high school that he developed his passion for electronic music.

He moved with his mother, brother and sister to North Vancouver, BC in 2010 where he attended PAVI (Pacific Audio Visual Institute) in 2011, graduating from their 1-year program in 2012. Dylan loved composing electronic music and had dreams of becoming an electronic music producer.  He aspired to attending the school Nimbus in Vancouver and furthering his education as a music producer. A highlight of his life as a young adult was going to Shambhala (the famous 5-day electronic music festival in Salmo, BC) in the summer of 2013 with his brother Justin and his friend Nigan - his 21st birthday gift.

In January of 2012, Dylan moved to Newmarket, Ontario to work for Good Health Mart Inc. (the chain of health food stores owned by his grandparents Eunice and Murray McMahon). Dylan quickly became the assistant manager of the Good Health Mart Brampton store and was an invaluable resource to his co-workers and his grandparents who really enjoyed having him there. He was in the process of taking a business course at York University to help further prepare him for the family business and to pursue an idea he had to become an entrepreneur in the music industry.

Dylan passed away suddenly in his sleep on May 15, 2014  from heart failure.  He was greatly loved by his family and friends and is deeply missed by all who knew him.

NIMBUS SCHOOL OF RECORDING & MEDIA

FIRST BURSARY AWARD

On May 15th, 2015 we had the privilege of presenting the first $1,000 Dylan Sterling Memorial Bursary to Amir Nikmanesh. Amir was selected from some very worthy applicants but we felt that musically, his interests and goals were very much in line with what Dylan was also trying to do. The presentation was very significant for our family and we were delighted to meet Amir. We wish him great success on his musical journey!

Amir's music can be heard at  https://soundcloud.com/princerima

This photo along with Dylan's story hangs in the hall at Nimbus School of Recording & Music in Vancouver. We are so happy that they have chosen to honour Dylan's memory in this way.

A Parable of Immortality by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There she goes!"

Gone where? Gone from my sight... that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There she goes!" there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout "Here she comes!"
